Decorating Cupcakes in Style

I do not know if many of you know this, but I home-school my 4 boys. The youngest, Declan, does attend preschool currently but we will be pulling him shortly to begin his home-school journey. In the past 6 years of homeschooling, I have learned that our day doesn’t need to be planned out to a T, in fact I have learned I am not a planner at all! There are many things we do in our day to day lives that are lessons in themselves. I often just let my kiddos ideas point me in the right direction. Today, my niece Eastyn, who is 3, came over for a play-date and decorate cupcakes for Valentines Day, which we plan on having many more of these play-date once Declan is home-schooled for good! These two are 2 peas in a pod. Both are the babies in the family, and have us all wrapped around their little pinkie fingers. They are both creative, on the go, non stop, full time fun(and exhausting LOL). Oh, and they are opinionated about everything. One of those things they are opinionated on clothes..and the other is helping. What is it about turning 3 and all the sudden they have to do everything by themselves? And if you tell them NO….run or at least hide out somewhere until the crying stops..just kidding.

One of the easiest ways to entertain my little guy is cooking. He loves helping me get out all of the pots and pans plus the ingredients he can reach. But his most favorite part is mixing everything together. He can get rather messy but I was happy to team up with Gymboree to share their spring clothing line, and be confident that their clothes will stand up to the mess. I hate when I purchase clothing that is made so cheaply a simple stain can’t be removed. What a waste! Gymboree’s clothing is always durable, standing up to the beating my kiddos give them, yet never fading in the wash. I can’t tell you how many clothes I have handed down to each boy that I purchased from Gymboree, and I can still consign them down the road.

Okay, back to the 2 peas in a pod and cupcakes. For their play-date, I grabbed our already baked, and iced cupcakes, and let them go to town decorating them how they see fit. I find that giving kids activities that allow them to express their own creativity without you always controlling them are best and give them the sense of independence they crave! Honestly, you can achieve this by allowing them to dress themselves too! Easier said then done for me. I think I am a little OCD when it comes to what my kids wear, oh well. So I try to pick clothing companies that suit us all. Cuteness, durability and quality for me, and character and comfort for them. Gymboree is one of those companies that fulfills this tall order! As long as Declan has cute shoes and hats he is happy. Eastyn loves shoes, dresses or tops that twirl, and color! Dressing themselves and even decorating cupcakes will also help with visual motor skills  like hand-eye coordination and visual focusing. These two had a great time decorating but had a lot more fun eating them in the end!

I would love to hear how you help your kids foster their creativity, so head on over to my instagram page to let me know and you could win a $50 gift card to Gymboree!
