Phoenix Family Photographer | Decorating Cupcakes in Style

Decorating Cupcakes in Style

I do not know if many of you know this, but I home-school my 4 boys. The youngest, Declan, does attend preschool currently but we will be pulling him shortly to begin his home-school journey. In the past 6 years of homeschooling, I have learned that our day doesn’t need to be planned out to a T, in fact I have learned I am not a planner at all! There are many things we do in our day to day lives that are lessons in themselves. I often just let my kiddos ideas point me in the right direction. Today, my niece Eastyn, who is 3, came over for a play-date and decorate cupcakes for Valentines Day, which we plan on having many more of these play-date once Declan is home-schooled for good! These two are 2 peas in a pod. Both are the babies in the family, and have us all wrapped around their little pinkie fingers. They are both creative, on the go, non stop, full time fun(and exhausting LOL). Oh, and they are opinionated about everything. One of those things they are opinionated on clothes..and the other is helping. What is it about turning 3 and all the sudden they have to do everything by themselves? And if you tell them NO….run or at least hide out somewhere until the crying stops..just kidding.

One of the easiest ways to entertain my little guy is cooking. He loves helping me get out all of the pots and pans plus the ingredients he can reach. But his most favorite part is mixing everything together. He can get rather messy but I was happy to team up with Gymboree to share their spring clothing line, and be confident that their clothes will stand up to the mess. I hate when I purchase clothing that is made so cheaply a simple stain can’t be removed. What a waste! Gymboree’s clothing is always durable, standing up to the beating my kiddos give them, yet never fading in the wash. I can’t tell you how many clothes I have handed down to each boy that I purchased from Gymboree, and I can still consign them down the road.

Declan’s spring outfit :

shirt | short | shoes | hat

Eastyn’s spring outfit :

shirt | leggings| shoes | hair curls

Okay, back to the 2 peas in a pod and cupcakes. For their play-date, I grabbed our already baked, and iced cupcakes, and let them go to town decorating them how they see fit. I find that giving kids activities that allow them to express their own creativity without you always controlling them are best and give them the sense of independence they crave! Honestly, you can achieve this by allowing them to dress themselves too! Easier said then done for me. I think I am a little OCD when it comes to what my kids wear, oh well. So I try to pick clothing companies that suit us all. Cuteness, durability and quality for me, and character and comfort for them. Gymboree is one of those companies that fulfills this tall order! As long as Declan has cute shoes and hats he is happy. Eastyn loves shoes, dresses or tops that twirl, and color! Dressing themselves and even decorating cupcakes will also help with visual motor skills  like hand-eye coordination and visual focusing. These two had a great time decorating but had a lot more fun eating them in the end!

I would love to hear how you help your kids foster their creativity, so head on over to my instagram page to let me know and you could win a $50 gift card to Gymboree!

Don’t forget to check out the entire collection of Gymboree spring pieces right here!

Phoenix Child Photographer | Mr. J’s Santa Mini Session

I know, I know, it’s already January and I am posting Santa Mini Sessions. For a photographer, October  thru Christmas is just crazy, so then we take a long break after Christmas hahaha! Mr. J came in for his Santa mini session super excited to talk to Santa! Little did he know that his mom has something more planned! You see, Mr. J wanted something super special for Christmas, and Mom was all for it! She secretly had created a neat treasure map with clues for J to follow. Santa and I were able to entertain J for a moment while she explained everything to my assistant, Nicole. So after Santa and I chatted for a while with an exuberant J, he gifted J with a super fancy, handcrafted map.  Oh my gosh, was this kiddo excited. With the help of his mom, he and Santa figured out the first clue and they were off to begin their adventure! Let’s just say that J was very happy with his treasure (Want to know what he wanted? Check out the last image that his mom sent me).

Jolie begins booking every August for Santa Mini Sessions. If you are interested in booking a Santa session, please follow her on facebook for session announcements!

Phoenix Newborn Photography | Twins A and M

Many of you don’t know this but I am a momma of twins, so I get a little giddy when I book a twin session. While they are harder then a single newborn to photograph, I love cuddling me some twins. It brings back precious memories of my twin boys, and then I get to give them back and sleep ALL night LOL. These sweet babies slept so well, and had usual twin behavior. One good sleeper and one that was always fidgeting…they may be twins but their personalities will be quite different and so can a twin photography session. Below are some tips on how to prepare for your twin session.

Tip 1 : Book as soon as you can. Don’t wait until the last minute. I need 2 assistants AND I need to order a few twins pieces. Most custom items that photographers buy take anywhere from 2-6 weeks to come in. Which leads me to my next tip.

Tip 2: Do not wait until your session day to tell your photographer all the props you like from her gallery on her website. Why? Well, photographers rarely have 2 of each item, or closely matching items, so if you come in and say you loved that pink wrap with the pink and gold headband, its highly unlikely she will have 2 for you. Once you book your session, chat with your photographer over the colors you want and what props you like and go from there.

Tip 3: Prepare Prepare Prepare. Twins need double the diapers, burp clothes and swaddles. Mom needs snacks and water for all the feedings. You may need to feed your twins once or twice during your 3-4 hour newborn session. Bring dad or grandma to help. Bring pumped milk or formula so they can be fed at the same time. Oh, and do not forget a pacifier! One of these sweet babies would not have been in the pictures if mom didn’t think to bring one! Non- Nutritive sucking is super important too. Read here for more info on what I am talking about.

I am sure there are more tips but we will leave that for another time. Enjoy the images of Miss A and Miss M.

Scottsdale Family Photographer | Family Reunion at the Montelucia

This amazing family of 16 met up in Scottsdale, Az this October for a fun vacation. Nothing says family portrait time like a big family reunion, especially when you have the Camelback Mountain,  a Phoenix icon and popular outdoor destination for thousands of visiting hikers each year, as your backdrop. I met this sweet family out at the Villas at the beautiful Montelucia Resort. Happy travels you guys!

What is your favorite family destination? Mine would be the beach or Disneyland!

Phoenix Family Photography | The F Family

Usually, I see these sweet kiddos at my Santa Mini Sessions but this year they decided on family pictures out in our beautiful desert! Boy, do these guys make the Arizona desert look even better! I love how momma coordinated their clothing in blues, mustard, white and a touch of red! I often tell clients to pick one item of clothing and work of that one piece or I send them to this link for ideas! Google is awesome. Merry Christmas to The F Family!

What are your favorite colors to wear for Christmas time?
